Dr. Melody Blanco is a double board-certified Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of Virginia. She achieved dual certification as both a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). She obtained her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the University of North Florida. Her doctoral project focused on improving adherence to guidelines for glucose monitoring for patients taking antipsychotics.  Dr. Blanco began her employment with Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board (HNNCSB) as an FNP at the Regional Crisis Stabilization Unit in Hampton, providing integrated primary care and mental health services to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. As a PMHNP, she practices in the Adult Comprehensive Outpatient Services section of the CSB.


In addition to her work as an advanced practice nurse, Dr. Blanco is an Adjunct Nursing Faculty at ECPI University. Her area of expertise includes undergraduate, RN to BSN student education, distance learning, and clinical practicum. Dr. Blanco was awarded Faculty of the Year in 2015 and was honored by the Virginia Career College Association.


She earned her Bachelor of Science (BS) in Psychology, with Post-Baccalaureate Certificates in Human Development and Clinical Mental Healthcare from the University of Maryland University College in 2010. In 2013, she obtained her BS in Nursing with highest distinction from ECPI University. Shortly thereafter, she began working as a certified wound care nurse at Capital Medical Center and a psychiatric nurse for Telecare Recovery in Partnership, a 16-bed evaluation and treatment center on the grounds of Western State Hospital in Washington State. In 2015, she completed her Master of Science in Nursing from Herzing University. She served as the Director of Advanced Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine at the Sentara Wound Healing Center in Norfolk, VA prior to joining HNNCSB.


Dr. Blanco is a member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, Phi Kappa Phi, and a Fellow of the American Professional Wound Care Association.
