CRISIS SERVICES
Crisis Services include emergency counseling, respite, intervention, and short-stay for stabilization; jail-based and forensic services; and community response for persons in crisis.

Emergency Services
24/7 response for psychiatric crisis assessing for immediate psychiatric intervention and issuance of temporary detention orders (TDO) for individuals in need of mandated treatment in a psychiatric hospital.

Regional Crisis Stabilization Unit
An 11-bed residential crisis stabilization / ambulatory detox program offering an alternative to or diversion from an acute inpatient psychiatric hospitalization. The multidisciplinary approach offers rapid access for brief intervention through psychiatry, nursing, therapy, psychoeducation, peer recovery supports, a structured milieu and comprehensive care coordination.

Jail Diversion Program
Collaboration with partners to identify persons with serious mental illness being placed in correctional custody for minor offenses to offer alternative supporting and clinical services.

Restoration to Competency Program
Provided to individuals found by the Court as “Incompetent to Stand Trial” and may include education and treatment delivered in either community or correctional settings. The goal is to assist individuals with regaining psychiatric stability and allowing them to participate with their attorney in their criminal defense.

Forensic Discharge Planning
Enhanced discharge planning and re-entry case support for individuals with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) in custody at the Hampton Roads Regional Jail (HRRJ) and returning to the community.

Crisis Intervention Team (CIT)
“Best Practice Model” of training and intervention for law enforcement and other first responder personnel assisting individuals experiencing behavioral health crisis.

Behavioral Health Dockets (BHD)
HNNCSB partners with both Hampton and Newport News General District Courts as part of separate dockets. BHDs are non-adversarial approaches by the judicial system, treatment providers, and other stakeholders addressing the needs of individuals with serious mental illness who have become involved in the criminal justice system. Through on-going support and supervision, the Court and Team assist individuals as they engage in services and address challenges to prevent further penetration within the criminal justice system.
