OUR SERVICES

Your Community Services Board offers a wide variety of mental health, developmental disability, and substance use disorder treatment services to youth and adults. We also offer crisis and respite services, jail-based services, drug court services, services to veterans, and provide residential services to persons with intellectual disabilities. Housing services are also available to those who qualify. Transportation services are available to those who qualify.

WALK-IN SAME-DAY SERVICE - Rapid Access

Rapid Access allows walk-in assistance without an appointment for program intake (registration). In this first session, the intake and initial clinical assessment will be completed. A therapy service will be scheduled within 10 days of the walk-in session, if recommended.

HELPING THOSE WITH SUBSTANCE USER DISORDER - Addiction and Recovery Treatment Services (ARTS)

We help adults, including pregnant women, struggling with addiction and women and children with emotional disturbances. We have drug courts in Hampton and Newport News, provide Peer Recovery Services, Medication Assisted Treatment, and outpatient counseling services for those struggling with both substance use and co-occuring (MH) disorders.

ADULTS IN CRISIS - Crisis Services

We provide emergency response, crisis intervention services, and jail-based assistance. We also offer community response to persons experiencing mental health crises, in conjunction with the City of Newport News first responders, and operate a 24-hour crisis stabilization unit.

INFANTS AND CHILDREN 18 AND UNDER - Youth and Family Services

We provide youth and family counseling, therapy, and crisis services to children and adolescents. We specialize in child psychiatry services and provide community support such as case management and therapeutic mentoring.

DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITY SERVICES - Developmental Services

We provide case management services to children and adults who have a developmental disability. We also offer residential and day support services to those with a diagnosed developmental disability.

COUNSELING AND MEDICAL MANAGEMENT - Adult Clinical Outpatient Services

We provide a wide variety of outpatient mental health support including counseling and medication management and employ a full complement of psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and nurses.

ADULT MENTAL HEALTH, COMMUNITY, AND HOMELESSNESS SERVICES - Adult Care Coordination

We provide planning services for those exiting State psychiatric facilities, supervised housing, and case management services for mentally ill persons. We also support homeless adults in our community who suffer from mental illness.

GETTING STARTED WITH OUR SERVICES


Here are items you need to bring with you for your first appointment to register for services. Individual programs may have other requirements. Expect the first appointment to last about an hour. The first appointment ensures we have all the information you need, and we answer any questions you might have about services. Providing the best service to you is our priority.


Proof of Identity

  • Picture ID
  • Social Security Card 

Insurance

  • Insurance card
  • Medicaid or Medicare cards
  • If you do not have insurance, proof of income such as pay stubs, Social Security statements, pension, retirement, W2, 1099, unemployment benefits

Your Info

  • Name, address, phone number
  • Emergency contact
  • Name, phone, and address of all treatment providers

Other Items You Might Need

  • ID/DD services psychological report 
  • Legal guardian or custody documentation
  • Referral documentation
  • List of all current medications
  • For follow-up services post hospital discharge, the discharge paperwork
  • Co-payment

If you have health insurance, a small co-pay may be required. If you do not have health insurance and live in Hampton or Newport News, you may qualify for a discounted rate based on your income and family size, or your treatment may be free if you meet eligibility from one of our grants. Our Financial Services staff will assist you to provide more information. Services are covered by most private insurances, including HMO’s.
