Each quarter colleagues and supervisors nominate individuals for outstanding effort and service. Here are some of our recent amazing employees.

At Partners in Recovery, our commitment to client care is unparalleled. Our dedicated therapists go above and beyond to ensure each individual remains engaged in the services they need. Our nursing staff meticulously manages medication schedules, keeping clients up-to-date with their prescriptions. Peer support plays a crucial role, as we collaborate closely with therapists to maintain client engagement and focus on recovery. Additionally, our front desk staff consistently offers courteous and professional service, creating a welcoming environment for everyone. Together, we strive to provide a holistic and supportive path to recovery.
Congratulations to our Partners in Recovery team for being selected as Team of the Quarter!
Ms. Mary goes above and beyond to assist our clients in recovery. She is empathetic and extends grace. Recently, Ms. Mary used her skillset of gardening to teach clients about how the impact of planting a seed can mirror recovery. She brought in soil, pots, and plants and provided them to our staff. Ms. Mary has gone above and beyond and has consistently been in communication with clients by being a resource to assist them in their own gardens. The clients are motivated and several of our clients have used their plants to remind them to call the Peer Recovery Support warm line.
We are grateful for Ms. Mary's presence and her contributions here at Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board.

Q: Can you describe a challenging situation you faced this quarter and how you approached it to achieve a positive outcome? A: This past quarter I was faced with the challenge of insuring that everything I needed to get done was done. There were multiple grants, including but not limited to, Peer Recovery Specialist certification grants, Medicaid billing grants, and the Peer Academy which ended earlier this month…making sure that everything was in place to make sure the trainings were successful. There was so much happening at one time but I did what I knew to do and that was reaching out to my high power and seeking His guidance. I took one thing at a time and things got done. When I looked up, I received the Employee of the Quarter award. I didn’t even know it! I was busy working on the training and I saw all of the emails come and I was so thankful.
Q: What would you say is the best part about working here at CSB? A: One word – support. Especially being in this position because I started out as a Peer Recovery Specialist myself. When I moved into this position, I had to submit my vision. From then until now, from leadership to the peer staff and coworkers, everyone has been supportive in pushing that vision forward. That’s what I love most, the support that I receive.
Q: What are some ways you maintain a healthy work/life balance? A: I make a goal of taking care of myself by practicing self-care. As a person in long-term recovery, I’ve learned if I’m skilled in techniques to do that, my overall well-being is tended to. With this position has come a lot of responsibilities. When I make time for myself, prayer, meditation, music, or whatever I enjoy doing, that’s how I maintain the balance. Self-care is it!
Latracia assesses and initiates tasks independently. It is not uncommon for her to come up with innovative methods for serving our women. She devised new measures to welcome our admissions. She independently created individualized care packagesto ensure these women ‘feel welcomed and have a sense of “home”’. Other examples of innovation are reflected in her contributions to the daily menu for the women; wherein, she collaborates with each woman to devise creative, healthy meals each woman feels empowered to make.
Latracia offers little traces of a “home” atmosphere in updating kitchenware, staying within budget, taking initiative to obtain items within directive with minimal managerial input. Simple touches such as air-fresheners in the halls of the building, pep-talks, individualize morning “wakeups” remain true to SEFP’s mission to foster the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of the women and families served. With her peers, Latracia serves as a voice of reason, peace maker, clarifier and energizer encouraging thoughtfulness and dedication in services provided. Lastly and of grave importance, the most endearing traits of Latracia lies in her positive attitude, calm demeanor and easy-going spirit. Furthermore, while she offers innovation, hard work and dedication, she creates a work environment that is pleasurable for staff, management and SEFP residents.
Congratulations to Jyka, Jenifer, Tammie, Paul, Kimi, Connie, and Beverly.
Our team has been able to stabilize a clinic during a year of tragedy. In the beginning of the year, our Medical Director had to retire for medical reasons. He was the stabilizing force since 2007 when he came to Outpatient Services. Over the summer, our nurse practitioner left. Then this past fall, our then-current Medical Director unexpectedly passed away.
This clinic has changed its dynamic and utilizing nurse practitioners for clinical services in the child setting. All of us have helped each other heal, and continue a new path to help the children and families from Hampton and Newport News. Jen and Jyka came to us as new prescribers and with this team’s effort and support from the agency's Chief Medical Director, we have stabilized this clinic, grown faster than I would have ever thought, and re-energized the goals that we have always worked hard to maintain. I am very proud of how we have helped Jen and Jyka help these families, but also, I am proud of how Jen and Jyka have helped us thru the toughest year we have had in terms of adversity. The trust and support of each other has only made us stronger.
